Understanding when your eSIM data starts and expires
Each Figabytes eSIM data package includes a specific validity period. Understanding how validity works helps you manage your data usage and avoid interruptions while traveling.
This guide explains when your eSIM validity starts, how expiration works, and what happens once your plan expires.
What is an eSIM validity period?
The validity period is the amount of time your eSIM data package remains active after activation.
Validity is usually measured in calendar days and depends on the plan you purchase.
Once the validity period ends:
- Any remaining data expires
- Mobile data access stops working
- The plan cannot be reused unless top-up support is available
When does my eSIM data start?
In most cases, your Figabytes eSIM starts when:
- The eSIM connects to a supported local network for the first time
- Or the plan is manually activated, depending on the plan type
Installing the eSIM alone does not usually start the validity period.
Does installation start the validity period?
No.
Installing your eSIM before traveling does not automatically activate your data package.
Most plans only begin when:
- You arrive at your destination
- Your eSIM connects to a supported network
This allows travelers to install their eSIM early without immediately using plan validity.
How can I check my eSIM expiration date?
You can check your eSIM validity by:
- Signing in to your Figabytes account
- Opening the “My eSIMs” section
- Selecting your active eSIM
There, you can view:
- Remaining data
- Validity period
- Expiration details
What happens when my eSIM expires?
Once your eSIM validity ends:
- Mobile data access will stop
- Remaining unused data will expire
- The plan cannot be reactivated unless top-up support is available
If you still need internet access, you may need to purchase a new eSIM or add more data if supported by your plan.
Can I extend or top up my eSIM?
Some Figabytes eSIM plans support top-ups.
Depending on the plan:
- Top-ups may add additional data
- Top-ups may not extend the original validity period
Always review plan details before purchasing a top-up.
Important things to keep in mind
- Validity is based on calendar days, not data usage
- Leaving your eSIM enabled may continue counting validity days once activated
- Turning off the eSIM does not pause the validity period after it starts
